Services

In Educational therapy, children learn concrete skills for managing homework, studying and completing long-term assignments. Using evidence-based strategies, students make gains in reading, writing, math, processing, and executive functions.

We'll start from scratch to develop a plan that meets the unique needs, strengths, challenges, sensitivities, and goals of your child.

where we start

I offer an introductory 30 minute phone consultation at no charge. If we agree that educational therapy might make sense for your child, we will schedule a time to meet in your home or on zoom.

Initial Meeting

The initial meeting is 60 minutes, and the time is split between you and your child. It is best if all parents who are involved in the child’s daily life are present as we discuss goals, expectations, and factors that will influence your child’s learning plan.

After the meeting, I will give you a detailed map of how we will proceed—the anticipated number of weekly sessions, the mix of in-person and virtual, and a schedule of fees. Most children start with two sessions per week and decrease as academic and social-emotional skills strengthen.

Bridge the Gap: Home to School

I bridge the gap between home and school, working closely with teachers to help your child:

  • Get ahead of assignments and stay on track.

  • Manage disruptive behavior in the classroom and make suggestions for in-classroom accommodations.

  • Improve comprehension and attention in school by previewing new material in sessions at home.

Chief Homework Manager

I become your child’s chief homework manager, relieving you of the common battles over assignments and tests.

  • Check Google Classroom or Schoology between sessions for changes to assignments.

  • Look ahead at the week and plan for extra time to study or complete large projects.

  • Monitor your child’s commitments and holding them accountable if those commitments are not met.

Your Child’s Advocate

I advocate for your child:

  • In informal meetings with teachers and school administrators.

  • At formal IEP and 504 plan meetings.

  • By modeling self-advocacy during our sessions.

Areas of focus

I work with elementary, middle school, and high school students, with or without a diagnosis, who struggle in school, including those with:

Reading and writing are complex cognitive tasks, and many children who struggle in school have difficulty with one or both skills. As an Orton Gillingham and The Hochman Writing Method provider, I have advanced reading and writing remediation training to help your child develop these essential skills.

INDIVIDUALIZED LEARNING PLAN

To create an individualized learning plan, I take into account your child’s strengths, weaknesses, learning styles, and any related conditions or diagnoses.

No two kids are alike.

To learn more about YOUR child, I'll:

  • Review psychoeducational testing reports, school report cards, IEP or 504 plans, and school report cards.

  • Speak to classroom teachers, learning specialists, guidance counselors, psychologists or therapists engaged in their care.

By keeping my overall caseload small, I can devote the time needed to maintain a 360-degree view of your child’s academic and social emotional growth.

COMMUNICATIONS

To keep you fully informed about your child’s progress, I send a weekly email summarizing:

  • The status of homework and tests

  • Any new or upcoming projects

  • On-going development of skills and management of challenges

Thank you, thank you, thank you. We never imagined we would find our daughter enveloped, on her own, reading, and enjoying it.

  • Family meetings and phone calls
